Ralph started his career in the energy industry in 1997 as a management accountant and finance advisor/economist at Shell Pernis Refinery in Rotterdam. From 2000 to 2003, he served as a finance advisor for Europe at Shell Energy/ Shell Energy Trading, based in London and The Hague, followed by a stint as a structured finance advisor on LNG at Shell International Gas in London for the remainder of 2003. From 2004 to 2007, Ralph served as the supply finance manager for the Atlantic Region at Shell Europe Oil Products/ Shell Trading in London, followed by a posting as financial controller and Deputy Finance Director at Brunei

Shell Petroleum from 2007 to 2011. Ralph then moved to Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company,

where he served as Finance Director from 2011 to 2016. End 2016, Ralph moved to a position as Chief Financial Officer and Finance Director for Shell Retail, Marketing, Lubricants and Supply for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Russia (EMEA), where he served until mid-2021, and lead the Downstream/ Downstream Finance transition “Reshape program”. From 2021 to 2023, Ralph moved to Shell’s Upstream division, where he was appointed Senior Vice President Finance for Conventional Oil and Gas, followed by his elevation as Upstream Finance Executive Vice President early 2022.

Mr. Wetzels is a senior international finance executive with nearly 30 years of experience across global energy, chemicals, and petrochemicals.

He currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Aramco’s global Downstream business, overseeing refining and petrochemicals, base oils and lubricants, fuels retail, pipelines and distribution, supply and trading, and power generation operations across more than 50 countries.

Prior to joining Aramco in 2023, Mr. Wetzels held several senior finance leadership positions at Shell, spanning upstream, downstream, trading, and international operations. His experience includes serving as Executive Vice President of Finance for Shell Upstream, in addition to various finance director roles across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Mr. Wetzels holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Nyenrode Business University, a Master’s degree in Finance Economics from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and a Master’s degree in Tax Law from the University of Amsterdam.
